Read on for the Press conference Q&A
1. What factors does KTO consider when choosing a Korea Tourism Ambassador?
► We consider various factors in choosing the Honorary Korea Tourism Ambassador.
We receive the recommendations from the travel industry, different entertainment management agencies, related Korean government agencies and we also do an online survey as reference.
We also consider the candidates’ interest on Korean culture and travel, his or her will or desire (to be a Korea Tourism Ambassador), popularity, image and so on.
2. We noticed that you got 2 female ambassadors here in Manila, do you have any plans of getting a local male celebrity?
► Yes, we do. The gender doesn’t matter. We just couldn’t find the right person.
3. Does a celebrity ambassador help promote Korean Tourism?
► Yes, it helped a lot. It is a huge factor that people recognize and know about Korean Tourism in a fast and easy way. For example, our former ambassador, Jessy Mediola, posted her Jeju travel photos in her SNS. She went to Seongsan Ilchubong (Sunrise peak), Jusanggeolli cliff and Cheonjiyeon Falls (those are UNESCO Heritage attractions), and tried Korean seafood and Kimchi. A lot of people commented on her photo and said they also want to go to Jeju to experience it.
It is very simple but it creates a big impact.
4. What can Filipino tourists expect when traveling to Korea in 2017? Are there any new locations that KTO wants to showcase to fresh/veteran tourists?
► We would like to recommend going to Gangwondo.
Gangwondo offers wonderful tourism attractions and visitors can experience various activities all year round. The best time to visit is in winter, when the mountains are blanketed in snow. Visitors can also choose from the many ski resorts, some of the best in the nation, and winter festivals in the area.
The most popular tourism attraction in Gangwondo is Nami Island. Nami Island is a small island on the outskirts of Chuncheon. It is great place for taking a stroll with friends and loved ones, surrounded by art, culture and the nature. It is a filming site of a world-hit Korean drama Winter Sonata in 2002, and it is famous for its Metasequoia road. Nearby Nami Island, you can enjoy Seorak Mountain, a popular landmark in Gangwondo, with scenic views of the east sea to its fullest.
If the stresses and responsibilities of daily life have you feeling down, plan a trip to Pyeongchang, the host city of the 2018 Olympic & Paralympic Winter Games. Your worries will fly away as you take in the pure air and beautiful scenery of Pyeongchang.
5. What are KTO’s plans for 2017?
► Firstly, we are promoting Korea Tourism as our brand marketing. We will be having online and offline events, such as joining exhibitions to promote Korea Tourism and to provide Korea travel updates. We are also planning to bring our Korea Tourism Ambassador to Korea. As said by the host, we are considering bringing her early next year so she can experience it. We also plan to have FAM tours with travel agencies and the press.
Secondly, we are encouraging our outbound travel agencies to develop new Korea packages in coordination with the airlines. There are various tourism attractions that visitors can enjoy! For other Korea tour packages, you may inquire to any travel agency.
6. Are there any travel promos or events that could encourage Filipinos to go to Korea?
► We have online events from time to time. You may visit our Facebook Page (www.facebook.com/koreatourismmanila) to join the events.
There is also the “Travel Tour Expo 2017”, the biggest travel fair in the Philippines which will be held on February 2017 at the SMX Convention Center, where you can get several kinds of Korea travel promos from travel agencies and airlines. You can also visit the Korea Tourism Pavilion and enjoy various events that we have prepared. We will also provide redemption gifts to those who purchased airline tickets to Korea and Korea Travel packages.
